Twelve Days of Christmas

Makin' a List...

Each verse in the "Twelve Days of Christmas" builds on the verse before it. There are twelve verses, each describing a gift given by "my true love" on one of the Twelve Days of Christmas.

The first verse begins:

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

The second verse builds off the first:

On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree.

The third verse builds off the second:

On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me
three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
and a partridge in a pear tree.

and so on.

The last verse is:

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
eleven pipers piping,
ten lords a-leaping,
nine ladies dancing,
eight maids a-milking,
seven swans a-swimming,
six geese a-laying,
five golden rings;
four calling birds,
three French hens,
two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree.
