| When they say Texas is like a whole other country, they speak the truth. We've got mountains and prairies and oceans and deserts. We've got cowboys and oil wells and sky scrapers, and art galleries, and theatre, and industry, and farms, and universities and everything in between. Texas stretches for more than 800 miles from north to south and east to west. That's a whole lot of distance! No wonder it feels like a whole other country. Besides our size and diverse geography, Texas is steeped in a culture born of our father, the American south, and our mother, Mexico. I've tried to include Texas holiday festivals and traditions that reflect our unique heritage.
