Christmas is my favorite time of year and of course, Texas is my favorite place to spend the holiday. I created this site to share the joy of Christmas in Texas with families like yours. Along with a list of family activities and events throughout the state, I've included Christmas stories, holiday recipes, Christmas songs, crafts and a collection of articles to help you make the most of your time and money in your holiday planning. From time to time I also feature articles on Texas craftsmen, family traditions, and Texas celebrations, businesses that are unique to Texas. You'll want to so you don't miss the daily blog updates below to stay informed of holiday related news and events in Texas. I also continually update the Christmas stories, recipes, songs, crafts, holiday hints and articles--so check back often. And whatever else you do, appreciate one another and have a happy and safe holiday with your family. Lanore Dixon
Only Canned Tuna Till Next Year
Well, I cannot conceal my disappointment. One of my favorite Christmas activities has already gone by for the year and I didn't get to participate. Oh well, at least there's still the DVD. I'm talking about Tuna Christmas, the pure Texan play performed by those Austin wonders, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams. Sadly, the play has moved on to other states, with Texas performances sewed up in late September. September seems a bit early for a Christmas play, but I suspect those Tuna guys are used to playing to packed houses no matter what time of year. I know I start watching my "Tuna Christmas" VHS as early as August some years.
![]() So,you can still see the Tuna guys in Texas this Christmas, only on DVD. Here's a link to their show schedule. Even though I'm too late to see the play this year, "Tuna Christmas" is still part of my holiday tradition. I bake cookies, make Christmas candy, and decorate while I watch those Tuna guys. Each year I try to wear something in the fashion of Bertha Bumiller. Bertha has a few years on me, (not to mention quite a number of pounds) but I absolutely adore her style. My kids say this is true just so I can annoy them…maybe. Year before last I tried to make some poinsettia earrings like Bertha wears, but they turned out so big that the poinsettias lay flat across my face instead of standing up nicely like Bertha's. (Of course, she has the benefit of that giant bouffant hairdo). Anyway, I asked Hubby and the kids if they'd get me some Bertha earrings for Christmas last year. I cannot tell you how delighted I was last year when I arrived home unexpectedly from the grocery store to find my husband making me a pair of poinsettia earrings like Bertha's. I swear, I was so touched, I nearly cried. (I'm not making this up!) I think that was the sweetest gift any man ever gave a woman. Here's a picture of me wearing a giant smile with my big ol' Bertha earrings the night he gave them to me. Neither of us could wait till Christmas! Anyway, I hope you get a chance to see Tuna Christmas with those fabulous Tuna guys. Whether you see them live on stage or on DVD, after you've seen "A Tuna Christmas," I'm sure you'll agree that Christmas will never be the same without them! |
